Rebecca Shubert, LCSW

Psychotherapist

About

I am a queer nonbinary psychotherapist, a born-and-raised New Yorker, and a staunch believer that our pasts don’t have to fully define our present or our future. If you are seeking to break out of old patterns that are no longer working for you and gain new clarity, you’re in the right place.

My therapy style is both warm and challenging. Often, people come to see me with problems in their lives and relationships that feel overwhelming and confusing. They may have an intellectual understanding of what is going on and still feel powerless to change it. I believe that therapy at its best can offer us all the opportunity to re-examine and revise old emotional blueprints. Within a trusting therapeutic relationship, we can make conscious choices that help us become more connected, authentic, and free.

I received my Master of Social Work degree from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work, and a two-year postgraduate certificate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the Psychoanalytic Institute at New York Counseling. I have clinical experience in case management, community mental health, psychoanalytic institute, and private practice settings. I am licensed in the state of New York as an LCSW.

Services

Currently, I primarily provide remote video sessions via HIPAA-compliant telehealth software. I offer in-person sessions in New York City intermittently, typically several weeks out of the year. I work with people ages 16 and up, and offer individual and couples therapy.

I operate out-of-network with insurance on a sliding scale based on each client’s unique financial circumstances. Please get in touch to learn more about how my sliding scale works!

My work is largely psychodynamically informed (i.e. traditional talk therapy). I am also deeply influenced by the IFS (internal family systems) model. My approach to therapy is informed by larger systems of power (race, gender, class, etc.), and also encourages clients to explore where they can step into their own power. I tailor my style to the particular needs and goals of each person I work with; it is not manualized or one-size-fits-all.

I have particular expertise in working with:

I also specialize in helping people who are dealing with:
